Living in the open landscapes of the Netherlands, where the wind is almost always present, I have found endless inspiration in everything it sets in motion. The wind is energy—it leaves traces in sand, water, and air, and redraws itself again and again.
You cannot capture the wind in a single image. It is unpredictable, constantly shifting, erasing its own marks as it renews itself. And yet, I have discovered that you can collaborate with the wind. By using it as an instrument, I create images shaped directly by its movements.
Some of these works are made at home, and because my love for the Caribbean others were created at these locations, where the presence of the wind is even stronger. The combination of the wind as a natural force with the complexity, strength, and beauty of the oceans provides me with endless inspiration. There, the wind provides and rules. In fact you can make wind drawings at any place, with the help of any kind of wind.
To make the wind visible, I have developed a series of simple, wind-driven instruments. These tools allow me to record the wind, to give it a shape. I call this Vento Visibilus—the visible wind. Each work is a unique time imprint: eternal, yet never the same.
Despite all our technological progress, the wind remains unpredictable. And that, for me, is where its true beauty lies while slowly making the wind visible.
